About us
CVR Plant Breeding began its work in plant breeding in November 2008, initially focusing on soybean and tomato crops. In 2010, the soybean breeding program was acquired by a multinational company in the sector, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the company’s history.
Since then, CVR has dedicated its efforts entirely to breeding processing tomatoes, which were already at an advanced stage of development. A milestone in this new phase was the development of CVR 2909 — the company’s first commercial hybrid — the result of extensive research and rigorous field validation.
Over the years, the company has evolved in a consistent and continuous way. It has developed protocols for resistance screening, integrated molecular markers into the selection process, and refined seed production techniques in protected environments. As a result, several commercial hybrids with strong agronomic and processing performance have been launched.
CVR’s main differentiator lies in its close connection with the production sector. The company maintains constant dialogue across the entire tomato value chain, directing its breeding efforts toward hybrids that fully meet the demands of processing companies — combining yield, resistance, and quality.
This journey of research, innovation, and hands-on experience has resulted in a broad and robust genetic base, capable of delivering hybrids tailored to Brazil’s tropical conditions, with high yield potential and multiple resistances — significantly advancing tomato cultivation in the country.
